Design Phase Underway for New Middle School

PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH (April 24, 2025) – The district, in partnership with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), has begun the exciting process of envisioning the new middle school, future home to 5th through 8th grade students.
Administrators and staff members, BSHM Architects and Hammond Construction are currently working on design concepts and programming for the new building. The entire team is committed to creating a facility that provides strong, innovative programs for students, safe and secure learning environments, and a gathering place for the Perry community.
The design process involves three major phases: schematic design, design development and production of construction documents. Schematic design involves the overall look of the building, preliminary floor plans and the layout of the building on the site. The design development phase includes refining the look, selecting materials, and designing the building systems. The final phase is developing detailed construction documents that will be used for establishing the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) and for bidding to subcontractors.
The district has selected Hartwick Park as the future location for the new middle school. In the coming months, you will begin to see activity on the site for due diligence investigations, including environmental assessments, soil borings and utility surveys. Building construction is set to commence in the spring of 2026, with the new building taking about 2 years to construct. The new middle school will be open for the start of the 2028-29 school year.
Throughout the course of the project, the design and construction team will continue to engage the community and students through community meetings, news releases, a groundbreaking event, student involvement activities and construction tours. We look forward to this exciting endeavor for our community and students!
